In this second post on the Sharjah Light Festival (SLF), I intend to cover the Al Majaz waterfront area. Al Majaz waterfront is now a popular family destination for residents and tourist. You can read my earlier post about Al Majaz water front here. You can read my first post of SLF here.
SLF literally sheds light on the rich cultural heritage and civilization of Sharjah which is painted as a story on the selected buildings. At Al Majaz water front the main locations were the Masjid Al Noor Mosque and the Masjid Al Taqwa.
Al Noor Mosque, a prominent landmark in Khalid Lagoon is of Ottoman design and influenced by the Sultan Ahmet Mosque in Istanbul. The show featured at this location is titled ” Dynamic Structures”.
I used my 50mm prime lens for the above shots – f8, ISO100, BULB mode with most shots around 4 seconds duration.
From the phase of the moon and the transit, I knew that the moon would be somewhere near the location in a couple of hours and decided to come back later in the night to attempt some pictures with the moon. Exposing the moon and the building is not an easy task !!! so for the moment left the moon and focused on the light festival.
Tried a hand at capturing the light trails from the vehicles and chose the opposite side of the street for a few shots.Used 18-55 mm kit lens, f8, ISO100, BULB mode – shutter speed ranges from 12 to 25 seconds. The lighting changes at a slower pace here and could use a longer shutter speed.
Walked a bit to the other side of the corniche to get a couple of long shots. The idea was to get a silky smooth waterscape in the frame
Lens 55-250mm, f16, ISO100, BULB mode – 10 seconds to a minute. The water got a silky feel but the colors are a bit hazed and movements can be felt. That has given me the effect I was looking for.
Palm Garden Light – Amidst the greenery of the park besides the Al Noor Mosque is a tunnel of lights named ” Palm Garden Light”.One could call it a mesmerizing light tunnel.
Al Taqwa Masjid at Al Majaz water front features the show titled ” Global Vision”. The show features astronomy, development of life, scientific research etc and pushing the visitors to explore deeper into the secrets of the universe.
It is very difficult to get a clean shot of this mosque due to the location and lot of crowd movement. Tried to shoot from between the trees and to include the fountain.
Will come back tomorrow with the last post of the series…. signing off until then.
Looking forward for your comments and feedback.
